In this one, we’ll see Tzu-Wei Lin play in center field as he continues his evolution into a super utility man. That could certainly prove valuable if Brock Holt leaves in free agency next winter. Meanwhile, Sam Travis heads out to left field, Eduardo Núñez plays shortstop (I’d be okay with not seeing this one in the regular season), and Michael Chavis plays first base. The last one is probably most interesting there.

Chavis’ bat has looked great in the early parts of spring and that alone will be enough to get him to the majors. If he wants to stick and carve out a regular role, however, he’ll need to find a spot on the diamond. The Red Sox are trying him at a few different positions as they try to find the best fit.

On the mound it’s going to be a day of relievers for the Red Sox, and mostly minor-league guys. Josh Taylor, who was acquired in the Deven Marrero deal and added to the 40-man this past winter, gets the start.

He’s kind of an under-the-radar bullpen piece who could make an impact in 2019. After him, per Jen McCaffrey, we’ll see Bobby Poyner, Dan Runzler, Daniel Schlereth, Daniel McGrath (lots of Dans!), Domingo Tapia, Jordan Weems, Jordan Montgomery, Trevor Kelley and Adam Lau.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is likely to make his spring debut Thursday afternoon at JetBlue Park against the Twins. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.

Manager Alex Cora was originally leaning towards Friday’s game in Sarasota for Pedroia’s debut to avoid the fanfare that comes with a national broadcast. It appears his thinking has changed.

Pedroia has not appeared in game action since May 29, when he went 1-for-4 against the Blue Jays at Fenway Park before going back to the disabled list with a recurrence of pain in his left knee. He spent the rest of the season rehabbing and has participated fully in workouts so far this spring.

Pedroia will only play a couple innings Thursday, with Cora’s goal being to build him up to seven innings by the end of spring training. The goal is to have Pedroia bat leadoff against the Mariners on Opening Day.

The Red Sox continue their spring schedule on Friday by traveling just a bit down the road to take on the Twins. They’ll have a few regulars in the lineup, though it’s not quite as exciting as what we’ve seen the last couple of days.

The most interesting part of this lineup, to me, is that we are seeing a lot of guys playing off of their natural positions. The Red Sox obviously value versatility, particularly from guys who aren’t slam dunk starting-caliber players, and so they use spring to try and build more of that versatility into players’ games.

F”or everything that we’ve been gathering and where he’s at, (it’s) a good start,” Cora said. “It’s not gonna be too much. Just the first game of spring training. We’ll start with that.”

40 years after the sunset on those summer nights, Grease is still the one that we want. But these dark behind-the-scenes stories will make sure you never sing “Greased Lightning” the same way again.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The biggest Red Sox news of the day came after the team’s 6-1 loss to the Pirates, as right-hander Steven Wright was suspended 80 games for violating Major League Baseball’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Here are some other notes from Wednesday’s action:

Boston’s top four starters– Chris Sale, David Price, Rick Porcello and Nathan Eovaldi– will get into games starting Sunday. They’ll likely go two innings the first time around but could go three if the pitch count is low.

Porcello, who is starting Sunday against the Rays in Port Charlotte, will be the first of the big four to get into a big-league game. He’s looking to build on a solid 2018 season in which he posted a 4.28 ERA in 33 starts.Cora appreciates how Porcello uses a full five-pitch repertoire in his outings.

“He’s a tough one because he has so many pitches,” Cora said. “Then all the sudden, the changeup is not working and he can use the breaking ball. If the breaking ball’s not working, he’ll use the sinker. If the sinker’s not good, he can go with a four-seamer up, which is great. It’s hard to plan for his outings because he’s so versatile on the mound.”

“In Sarasota, we don’t have the doctors and the facilities and all that,” Cora told reporters in West Palm Beach Tuesday.

After capping off a milestone evening last night with a 3-1 victory in Arizona, the Ducks get right back at it tonight against the St. Louis Blues at Honda Center. (7 p.m. PT, TV: NBCSN, Radio: AM 830). The Ducks enter tonight’s contest riding a two-game winning streak that started with a 2-1 victory on Sunday vs. Colorado.

Both victories came against teams on the cusp of a playoff spot in the Western Conference – Colorado currently two points back of Minnesota for the second wild card and Arizona three points back. Tonight the Ducks face a Blues team that holds down third place in the Central Division with 73 points, but are just three up on the Avs. Though the Ducks remain on the outside looking in, their improved play as of late has them feeling good about their game.

“I don’t even think we’ve really changed much,” said Troy Terry, who scored a power-play goal in the third period last night. “Things are going our way. Even when we were losing, we were playing the right way. Now, we’re playing that way, but finding ways to win. Everyone is really positive right now. It’s a fun team to be a part of.”

Last night’s win was a fitting end to an unforgettable game for Ducks center Ryan Kesler, who played his 1,000th career NHL game in front of his wife Andrea, parents Mike and Linda, sister Jenny, brother Todd and his wife Stacey. Kesler’s longtime friend and former teammate Kevin Bieksa was also in attendance, with plenty more figuring to be in the stands tonight for the season series finale against the Blues.

These two clubs have split the first two meetings of the season thus far, with the Ducks earning a 3-2 win on Oct. 14 in St. Louis and the Blues posting a 5-1 win on Jan. 23 at Honda Center. The Ducks own a 43-38-11 all-time record against the Blues, including a 25-17-3 mark in Anaheim. The Ducks have also gone 11-2-1 in their last 14 home games vs. St. Louis dating to Jan. 7, 2010. Ryan Getzlaf leads active Ducks in career scoring vs. the Blues with 37 points (9g/28a) in 40 games.

The Blues are 6-3-1 in their last 10, but have lost two straight games. They haven’t played since Saturday, a 4-1 loss against the Dallas Stars. According to reports, Brayden Schenn will return to the lineup tonight after missing the past six games with an upper-body injury. The 27-year-old center has 39 points (11g/28a) in 55 contests this season, and the Blues are 49-19-6 when he records at least one point in a game. Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington enters tonight’s game with a 15-3-1 record, 1.58 goals-against average, .938 save percentage and five shutouts in his first 19 career starts. Since Jan. 7 (his first NHL start), Binnington is 8-2-1 on the road with a 1.45 GAA, .940 SV% and four shutouts

Yankees vs Phillies : The Phillies jumped from 78 to 86 wins an eight-win improvement. The Yankees went from 90 to 98 wins also an eight-win improvement. The next best team was the Cincinnati Reds, who made a six-game improvement in going from 75 to 81 wins. The Yankees were rained out Tuesday versus the Phillies, and their game against the Tigers yesterday was shorted by rain, but the forecast this afternoon calls for sunny and a high

After defeating San Diego and Loyola Marymount on the road a couple of weeks ago, BYU was poised to clinch the No. 2 seed in the West Coast Conference Tournament.

When the Cougars lost to San Francisco and Gonzaga the following week, it appeared they were headed for the No. 4 seed.

But in the end, USF lost its final three regular-season games while BYU defeated San Diego 87-73 last Saturday at the Marriott Center.

That’s how the Cougars tied for second place in the final WCC standings — for the first time since 2014-15 — with Saint Mary’s and wound up as the No. 3 seed for the tournament at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

BYU will play in the quarterfinals Saturday at 10 p.m. MST on ESPN2 against either Portland, San Diego or Santa Clara.

“(It’s) an accumulation of what we’ve done the past few weeks. Obviously, we had two letdowns. But this team has been through so much adversity and through so many challenges that we know who we are,” said forward Yoeli Childs, who scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against USD. “We know we’re a team that can bounce back. We know we’re a team that is really good when we’re playing with a purpose and doing the right things. Everyone’s confidence is sky-high right now. We’re going into this thing with the attitude that we’re going to go win it all. We’re really excited and I wish Saturday would come quicker.”

By securing the third seed, the Cougars avoid a potential semifinal matchup with the No. 1 seed in the tournament — and the No. 1 team in the nation — Gonzaga.

In the opening round Thursday, No. 8 Pepperdine faces No. 9 Pacific and No. 7 San Diego takes on No. 10 Portland.

The winner of Pepperdine-Pacific will meet No. 5 Loyola Marymount and the winner of San Diego-Portland will play No. 6 Santa Clara Friday.

No. 3 BYU will collide with the winner that emerges from the San Diego-Portland-Santa Clara side of the bracket in the quarterfinals Saturday. The Cougars posted a 5-0 record against those three teams during the regular season.

No. 4 San Francisco will match up with the winner of the Pepperdine-Pacific-Loyola Marymount side of the bracket.

If BYU wins Saturday it will set up a showdown with No. 2 Saint Mary’s in the semifinals next Monday. Top seed Gonzaga will also play in the semifinals next Monday.

The WCC Tournament championship game tips off next Tuesday.

BYU finished the regular season with a 19-12 record and 11-5 in the WCC.

The Cougars played without forward Gavin Baxter Saturday. Baxter has been ill and coach Dave Rose is hoping to get him healthy and ready to go this week.

Against San Diego, TJ Haws scored 26 points while Nick Emery had 15. Both Haws and Emery went 3 of 4 from 3-point range.

Meanwhile, Zac Seljaas didn’t make any 3s but he was 5 of 6 from the field for 10 points to go along with three rebounds and four assists.

BYU, which hasn’t won a conference tournament championship since 2001, is eager to compete for a title.

“It’s about playing your hardest every single game, no matter who we play on Saturday. We’ve got to be locked in. We’ve got to be ready to go. It takes 40 minutes every game,” Haws said. “March is a crazy time and lots of crazy things happen. Anybody can beat anybody. You can’t focus on Tuesday or Monday. It has to be taking one game at a time, one possession at a time.”

Indians vs Diamondbacks

Indians vs Diamondbacks : The game is one of the biggest popular game in the world between Indians vs Diamondbacks of MLB 2019. Analysts think that is a special game of 2019. Indians centerfielder Greg Allen greeted his first offering, a 93 MPH fast ball, by ripping it into the Left Centerfield gap for a stand up double. After issuing a walk, Kelly then surrendered an RBI base hit by Jose Ramirez into Right Field on the 8th pitch of the at bat.

Indians vs Diamondbacks  Live Stream: How to Watch Indians vs Diamondbacks  Online Free HD TV Coverage.

The Tribe scored three in the first to take a quick lead, but Chih-Wei Hu gave it and more away, as he lasted just a third of an inning, allowing five runs on four hits as Arizona led it 5-3 after one inning.

Cleveland scored a run to make it 5-4 in the third, and then the Tribe took a 7-5 lead in the fourth when Jose Ramirez hit his first homer of the spring with two on and two out.

The lead lasted till the bottom of the 5th when Arizona would put up a three-spot to take an 8-7 lead, as righty Dalbert Siri gave up the eventual Diamondbacks game-winning run to suffer the loss.

The Indians sent a total of nine pitchers to the mound in the game, with Justin Grimm the only Indians pitcher going over an inning of work, as he lasted 1.1 innings.

Ramirez had the biggest day at the plate, going 2-for-3 for the Tribe with four runs batted in, and catcher Kevin Plawecki had a pair of hits in three times at the plate with a run scored and a RBI.

Friday the Indians will have a pair of games, as they will take on the two-time defending NL Champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

And just like that Torey Luvullo was out to the mound and pulling Kelly from the game. In all he threw 27 pitches, and retired just one batter. His Fastball Velocity ranged between 91-93, and he struggled with his command throughout the short outing. After the game Torey indicated that Kelly might have had a little anxiety or been a little too excited making his first start for the team.

Riley Smith relieved Kelly and got the last two outs of the inning without incident . In the bottom of the first, the DBacks got right to work. With Chih-Wei Hu starting for the Indians, Matt Szczur and Illdemaro Vargas opened the hitting with singles. This was followed by a Wilmer Flores HBP, loading the bases for Christian Walker. It’s at this point I would normally insert a video, and it’s too bad there isn’t one available, as Walker hit a deep line drive over the head of the Indians Right Fielder, reaching the 390 mark on the RCF wall on one hop, clearing the bases in process.

After Steven Souza was caught looking at a pitch 6 inches off the plate for strike 3, (Hey, it’s spring training for the umps too) Carson Kelly got his first hit as a Diamondback, knocking a pitch over the right fielder’s head as well, scoring Walker with a double of his own. That would be all for Hu. The first of many Cleveland relievers came on, and was greeted by an Abraham Almonte single to score Kelly before finally striking out Andy Young to end the inning, with the Dbacks leading 5-3

The two starters combined to record 2 outs, and allow 8 runs on 7 hits a walk and a HBP. The frame took 50 minutes to complete. So much for pace of play.

Arnold Palmer Invitational Purse

Arnold Palmer Invitational Purse : TheArnold Palmer Invitational Purse features a field of 119 of the world’s top golfers vying for a $9.1 million purse, with the winner receiving a three-year PGA Tour exemption. If history is any indication, this year’s event will come down to the wire. In fact, four of the last five Arnold Palmer Invitational events have been decided by one stroke, and with major champions like Phil Mickelson.

Arnold Palmer Invitational Purse Live Stream : How to Watch Arnold Palmer Invitational Purse Online Free HD TV Coverage.

Patrick Reed, and Jason Day in the 2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational field, we could have another tight finish. One player we won’t see when the 2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational tee times begin on Thursday at 6:45 a.m. ET is Tiger Woods, who withdrew earlier this week with a neck injury. Rory McIlroy is the Vegas favorite at 8-1 Arnold Palmer Invitational odds to repeat as champion, while Justin Rose and Brooks Koepka are right behind him at 12-1. Woods was listed at 9-1 before bowing out. Before entering any 2019 Arnold Palmer .

SportsLine’s prediction model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has nailed four of the past eight majors entering the weekend and called Tiger Woods’ deep run in the PGA Championship despite being a 25-1 long shot. The model has been spot-on early in the 2018-19 season. It was high on champion Dustin Johnson at the 2019 WGC-Mexico Championship, projecting him as one of the top two contenders from the start. It also correctly predicted Brooks Koepka’s (9-1) victory at the CJ Cup earlier this season. Additionally, it correctly called Bryson DeChambeau’s (9-1) seven-shot victory at the 2019 Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Anyone who has followed the model is up huge.

Now that the 2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational field is locked, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times and the results were surprising. One huge shocker the model is calling for: McIlroy, the defending champion and top Vegas favorite on the 2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational odds board, makes a strong run but falls short of winning the title.

Thus far in the 2018-19 PGA schedule, McIlroy has already racked up four top-10 finishes. And although he has 14 career PGA Tour victories, he’s only finished on top of the leaderboard once since 2016.

Despite his red-hot start to the new season, McIlroy enters the 2019 Arnold Palmer Classic ranked 171st on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy percentage (57.39), which could cause major trouble at Bay Hill. His inability to keep the ball in the fairway off the tee will leave McIlroy scrambling around Palmer’s famed Championship Course. He’s not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in this loaded field than the 8-1 premium he’s commanding.

Another surprise: Hideki Matsuyama, a 28-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. He’s a target for anyone looking for a big payday.

Matsuyama comes into the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2019 off a strong performance at the WGC-Mexico Championship, where he took 19th. It was his fourth straight top-20 finish on the PGA Tour, a streak that included top-10 runs in the Farmers Insurance Open and Genesis Open.

The five-time PGA Tour winner is hitting the ball extremely well this season, ranking in the top 10 in driving distance (313.4 yards) and total driving efficiency (32). His ability to hit the ball deep into the fairway allows him to use his short irons to approach the green. That lethal combination has allowed Matsuyama to crack the top 20 on the PGA Tour in scoring average (69.888) this season. He can climb the 2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational leaderboard quickly and should be on your radar for the next event on the PGA schedule.

Also, the model says three other golfers with 2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational odds of 18-1 or longer make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these underdogs could hit it big.

Those who had hoped Tiger Woods would participate in the 2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational are out of luck.

Woods will miss the tournament — which takes place in his home state of Florida at Orlando’s Bay Hill Club and Lodge — due to a neck strain. He made the announcement on his Twitter account Monday, abruptly putting a hamper on what had been a smooth start to Woods’ 2019 tournament schedule.

There has been a lot of talk about the Leafs bottom line since the Lindholm trade. Trevor Moore seemingly has a good reputation already among the coaching staff and has seven points to his name in 12 NHL games this year, while Tyler Ennis potted three amid a positive night for his line on Monday after sitting out the prior game as a healthy scratch.

They’ll now add to that line’s skill level tonight as Nic Petan replaces Frederik Gauthier at center. The 23-year-old Gauthier has played 94 games in the NHL now over four different seasons, including 57 this year. I wouldn’t say we’re getting into last chance territory yet, but he has a solid body of work now at the professional level and hasn’t posted good enough results for the team not to explore other options. He’s never finished with a positive RelTM Corsi or expected goals offensively and has had mixed results defensively. This year, in fairness, he’s been solid in his own end and has allowed 2.3 fewer shot attempts per hour relative to his teammates; he can be a good complement to skilled players as someone who can win puck battles, stay above his man, and support down low in the defensive zone, but Petan’s skill level and scoring rates in the AHL have earned him a look in what has been Gauthier’s role for most of the year so far.

The only other change for the Leafs is Justin Holl drawing in once against for Igor Ozhiganov. Holl’s last game was the Leafs 6-1 loss in Tavares’ return to Long Island, and it’s good to see the organization is approaching this as a more active rotation than earlier in the season given the blue line’s need for more puck-moving ability with Travis Dermott and Jake Gardiner on the shelf.

The Canucks are 2-6-2 in their last ten and currently sit sixth in a Pacific Division that has five of the NHL’s poorest teams below its top three of Calgary, San Jose, and Vegas. 2018-19 will nevertheless be looked at as a relative success for Vancouver compared to some of the bleak years they’ve had recently. There’s still some pain to be had before they’ll have a team that could compete for a playoff spot (they rank between 22-25th in most major metrics this year), but the play of Pettersson, Boeser, and Horvat have given Canucks fans hope that there are better days ahead.

Tonight’s starting goaltender for the Canucks, Jacob Markstrom has been with the Canucks four years now, two years as their starter. He hovered around league average numbers until this year, when he’s taken a step up with the team more competitive on a regular basis. He ranks seventh among regular NHL goaltenders in goals saved above expected this year. It’ll be him vs. Andersen tonight, who’s so far continuing the best year of his career into the month of March.

“In Sarasota, we don’t have the doctors and the facilities and all that,” Cora told reporters in West Palm Beach Tuesday.

“When you run a marathon, you don’t run the whole thing before you get there,” Cora said. “Seven innings. We’ll take it step-by-step.”

If he debuts Thursday, Pedroia will have exactly three weeks of game action to prepare for Opening Day. His debut will mark a significant step on a long road back.

Cora said Porcello’s relief appearance in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Yankees was the loudest he heard Fenway Park at any point last season.

“When he came in and got those two outs,” Cora said. “That was cool to see. He actually set the tempo for the whole month of October.”

Bullpen candidates Tyler Thornburg and Colten Brewer each pitched against the Pirates, with Thornburg allowing an earned run on two hits and Brewer striking out two in his inning of work. Thornburg’s line was skewed by a dropped Andrew Benintendi fly ball but raised his spring ERA to 12.00.

“Velocity was the same as the last one, which is good,” Cora said. “Something that we’re looking forward to. 95 (mph), again. Just like the last one. He threw better than what the line shows.”

The Sox will be back in action Thursday at JetBlue Park, facing the Twins at 1:05 p.m. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia will make his long-awaited debut, getting one at-bat and playing two innings in the field.

J.D. Martinez will be at designated hitter while Mitch Moreland (first base), Xander Bogaerts (shortstop) and Rafael Devers (third base) will join Pedroia in the infield. Brock Holt (left field), Jackie Bradley Jr. (center) and Mookie Betts (right) will round out the lineup.

2019 Indian Wells odds, picks, predictions: Tennis insider says Novak Djokovic primed for Paribas Open upset..
Coming off three straight Grand Slam title wins, Novak Djokovic is the favorite at the 2019 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, Calif. The first Masters 1000 level tournament of the year begins on Thursday from the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and everyone from amateur to professional bettors will be locked in. Djokovic has won this tournament five times, but hasn’t made it past the fourth round since 2016. Sportsbooks list Djokovic at 5-4 to win it all, with Rafael Nadal at 5-1, Roger Federer at 7-1 and Alexander Zverev at 17-1 in the latest 2019 Indian Wells odds. Does anyone besides the top contenders have a serious shot? Renowned tennis bettor Sean Calvert thinks so. And you’ll want to hear what he says given the streak he’s on.

Not only did Calvert nail the 2018 U.S. Open, calling Djokovic -1.5 sets in the final (a straight-set laugher over Juan Martin del Potro), he’s also hit it big in events like this — important tourneys just below the Grand Slam level. Last year, he cashed in huge on John Isner winning the Miami Open at 100-1, a life-changing payout for those who followed Calvert’s advice. Then he accurately predicted Daniil Medvedev would win the Tokyo Open at 45-1.

Plus, Calvert nailed Juan Martin del Potro beating Federer at Indian Wells last year, earning a strong 16-1 payout for anyone who listened to his advice. He knows Indian Wells like the back of his hand.

Now, Calvert has broken down the latest 2019 Paribas Open odds and locked in his best bets. He’s only sharing them over at SportsLine. We can tell you Calvert wants no part of Djokovic at his 2019 Indian Wells odds.

“The unexpectedly-rejuvenated Nick Kyrgios could be Djokovic’s second match,” Calvert told SportsLine. “Kyrgios had been in the doldrums for some time due to injuries and lack of motivation, but he roared back to form out of nowhere in Acapulco last time out, beating Nadal, Isner, Stan Wawrinka and Alexander Zverev to win the title. He may well fancy an early clash with Djokovic, who hasn’t played since January.”

“Kyrgios beat Djokovic at Indian Wells in 2017 and in Acapulco prior to that, so the Serb has yet to record a win over the Aussie,” Calvert added. “That matchup, if it happens, will be the key to the whole BNP Paribas Open 2019 from a betting perspective.”

Instead of Djokovic, the unparalleled analyst is eyeing a pair of players, including a monster long shot that would pay out at over 100-1. That contender “has perfect conditions, with a very bouncy court and the balls flying through the air” to take down the favorites.

So who wins the BNP Paribas Open 2019? And which monumental long shot stuns the tennis world at Indian Wells? Visit SportsLine now to see Sean Calvert’s detailed Indian Wells picks, all from the acclaimed expert who called John Isner winning the Miami Open at 100-1.
The first of the highly-anticipated nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments is here as the BNP Paribas Open kicks off at Indian Wells in California this week. The crème de la crème of the tennis world has descended in the desert as they aim to make a grand start to the North American hardcourt swing.

With Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer having won five titles each at this prestigious tournament, they will undoubtedly command the lion’s share of attention. Rafael Nadal’s record isn’t too shabby either as he reigned supreme thrice.

The 128-player field sees the Serb as the top seed, who should be wary of the dangerous Nick Kyrgios to whom he has lost both his meetings so far. With the mercurial Australian emerging victorious in Acapulco, the World No. 1 cannot afford to make any mistake if he wants to post his first ever win over Kyrgios.

11th seed Borna Coric, winner at Halle last year, and 18th seed Gael Monfils, champion at Rotterdam this year, are the other names in the 15-time Grand Slam champion’s quarter who could pose some threat.

After a bout of flu and an early defeat to Kyrgios in Acapulco, Nadal returns to Indian Wells as the second seed. 25th seed Diego Schwartzman does possess the stamina to stretch the Spaniard in their possible third round clash. Eighth seed John Isner and 12th seed Karen Khachanov would hope to halt The Bull’s run but if the 17-time Grand Slam winner can find the serve and the hunger that he displayed in Melbourne, there’s no reason why he cannot make it to the semi-finals.
